Winter 2025 Weekly Writing Meetups (Jan 9 – Mar 27, 2025)
public service announcement
I don’t know who needs to hear this but…
Having a regular writing practice doesn’t have to make you want to drill a hole in your head.
Overview
Morning pages? More like boring pages.
Confession: even though I’ve published three books, I still struggle with maintaining a regular writing practice—unless I’m cowering under a deadline, caffeine overdose, or mental picture of Asian beetles invading my office unless I hit 500 words.
The only time writing didn’t feel like a chore was when I attended a now-defunct library writing circle. We’d meet weekly, rain or shine, drawing prompts from an old coffee can for an hour. The mix of supportive camaraderie (read: voluntary hostage situation) and creative prompts struck the perfect balance of structure and freedom.
Every season, I recreate that vibe online with weekly writing meetups. Join me on Thursday mornings (Jan 9 – March 27, 2025) for a 12-week series of meetups. Each session is 60-90 minutes of gentle creative drills and free-writing sessions that focus on generative writing and skill building—all with a self-compassionate approach.
Between sessions, you can connect with fellow writers on my Discord server to share wins or just check in.

What this is
A 12-week, 90-minute generative writing session focused on creative skill-building. These meetups emphasize writing new, fresh content guided by prompts that encourage you to practice specific writing techniques, explore different parts of speech, or experiment with imaginative elements.
All sessions and program elements will be facilitated by me and moderated as needed. I’m not here to teach or provide content, just a gentle presence to provide opportunity and space for everyone to lean into their own creativity.
Who this is for
These weekly meetups are for Christian writers of all experience levels and genres who want to:
- Start or maintain a regular writing practice
- Sharpen writing skills in a fun, supportive environment
- Participate in a faith-based writing community with gentle structure
Note: Writers from all traditions and denominations are welcome, whether your writing includes spiritual themes or not. We’ll begin and end with a brief prayer, and respect each participant’s unique way of integrating faith into their writing. The focus will be on enhancing writing skills, not on theological debates.

FAQ
What if I can’t make the sessions in real time?
To build community and accountability, it’s best to register if you can attend most sessions live. However, missing one or two is understandable. I’ll post the schedule and exercises afterward for those who want to catch up. (Sessions won’t be recorded since much of the time is spent writing quietly.)
Will I come out of these sessions with writing I can repurpose into publishable work?
Some of the prompts may spark ideas or snippets you choose to use later. That said, emphasis will be on getting the juices flowing and strengthening deeper writing muscles, which will (hopefully) result in stronger and more voluminous writing outside of sessions.
I’m a fiction writer—will this group help me?
Absolutely! The exercises cover a variety of genres and styles, including fiction. They’re designed to enhance skills useful for any writer.
I can’t join this time—will the group be offered again?
I hope to offer it again! Follow me on Instagram or Substack for updates on future groups.
Do I have to share what I write?
Sharing is always optional. You’re welcome to share, but there’s no pressure—participate in the way that feels right for you.
Will we be asked to write about trauma or difficult topics?
No. The focus is on writing craft, not personal healing. The prompts are non-specific and open-ended, allowing you to choose how you respond. Sharing work is optional, and we’ll follow community guidelines to avoid distressing content when reading aloud.
